Collection: DDS + HWH Collab

COMING SOON! This collaboration fell out of my desire to create enduring pieces based on my Schema and Fallen collections, and out of my admiration for the work of local potter Heidi Weiss Hoffman.

Works on panel can last for centuries if they are collected and protected, but fired clay is extremely durable and can last for thousands of years, often surviving as one of the few remnants of ancient civilizations, as it does not decompose. I was also influenced by others' interpretation of my Schema collection as "ancient alien writing". I was looking to create pieces evocative of cuneiform tablets which date back to around 3000 BC, and are among the earliest known writing systems, developed by Sumerians in Mesopotamia for administrative, economic, and literary records. These clay documents, often fired for permanence, commonly documented bureaucratic transactions, laws, letters, and myths, providing crucial insight into ancient Sumerian, Akkadian, and Babylonian life.

The current 6 x 6 inch framed ceramic pieces in this collection are the result of focused experimentation on my part, paired with the ideas and expertise of Weiss Hoffman, utilizing her well-equipped ceramic studio.
