Collection: Fallen
The Fallen collection takes it's palette and design language from the seasonal decay in Bend, Oregon late October 2025. Each piece is graphically inspired by the trees around my home. As the trees move to their season of slumber, they do so in a very elegant way, sending signals through their branches into their leaves, they stop producing green pigment (chlorophyll) which allows the yellow and orange pigment (carotenoids) which were masked by the green to become visible. Some trees also product new red and purple pigments (anthocyanins). As time passes, leaves change color, dry and with as their connection to the tree is severed, ultimately falling to the ground to decay and become part of the earth from whence they came. It's easy to take this time and and it's imagery for granted as it happens annually. But this year I felt the need to document our "Fall"... to capture it's palette, and to interpret it's most symbolic element, the fallen leaf, in my schema style. The painting of fall leaves is something of a cliche, but my conceptual focus on decay and impermanence (of us, civilizations, and leaves in this case) seems apropos, and my geometric interpretation seems anything but trite. So, if you love the colors of Fall, and want a piece that honors them, and our friends the trees, without the typical visualizations of representational leaves and golden aspens, this collection might be for you.
Each multi-layered, cradled panel embodies an experiment in composition, pigment, and concept. In each piece, an array of simple, precise, geometric, architectural acrylic elements are overlaid upon a detailed lattice of graphite line work evocative of an abstract architectural schematic. Pigment is carefully applied and removed by planned, yet chaotic methods resulting in the compositions represented here. In many cases, graphite linework is applied yet again as a final touch. At 5x5 inches, these pieces are small, but evocative and can be displayed as singles, or grouped together in multiples. All are wrapped in hardwood frames of white oak, natural walnut, ebonized walnut or gray washed cherry. Each comes neatly packaged and ready to hang with a hangz sawtooth hanger hand embedded in the frame, and hangz wall hardware.
Exactly 12 new paintings will be available in this collection on November 5th at 8:00 am PST. Each unique in design and palette.
